Pennywort

Hydrocotyle tripartita

General information: The small plant cultured at Aquagreen came from a Native plant nursery. It is cultured in a mist house for ease of growing but can be grown submerse if required and some notice is given. Even though it is a temperate plant like Glossostigma elatinoides it does OK in the Darwin Rural area. It would also be a nice small plant for the edges of the native plant pond. The photographs in this page come from Scoot Andresen in Alice Springs. He used this plant in a very nice display. With medium to high light it spreads across the bottom very well forming a nice ground cover.

Cultivation notes : It likes medium to high light levels in the aquarium, in nature it grows in shallow water, along the edges of streams and in damp places. It is best used as a foreground plant and in higher light levels will spread out prostrate. In lower light levels the plant will grow toward the surface of the water in the aquarium.
